There was a fear that the Taliban would shut down the girls’ formal education like during the initial period of power between 1996 and 2001′, said the AFP report.

All schools will be accessible to all girls and boys,’ Aziz Ahmad Rayan, a spokesperson on behalf of the Ministry of Education, stated earlier to Reuters.

Girls were excited to return to campus in the morning of Wednesday, only to be directed to stay home. Girls in the sixth grade were not permitted to remain in the classrooms and were ejected.
