The Indian Army is the land-based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces. It was formed on August 15, 1911 under British rule and has been in service since then. The army is responsible for protecting India’s territorial integrity, assisting civil authorities such as police forces in times of emergencies, or when called upon to help them out during natural disasters like earthquakes or floods.

The Indian Navy has also been part of this celebration every year since 2023 but with a different meaning: navy means sea; army means land.

The motto of the Indian Army is “Desh Ka Vidhata” (Rule of the country)

The motto was adopted in 1963, and it means “God of the country” or “rule of the country”. This was a tribute to god for protecting our nation from enemies.

India has a long history of military service

India has a long history of military service. The Indian Army was first established in the 18th century as the East India Company’s army to protect its commercial interests and to expand the British Empire in South Asia. It later became an independent force during World War II when it took on British forces in Burma (now known as Myanmar). The Indian Army is currently one of the largest standing armies in Asia; however, it still faces challenges such as limited funding and recruitment issues due to low pay rates compared with other countries’ armies such as China or Russia.

The Army has undergone many reorganizations since its foundation in 1947

The first Army Corps of Engineers was formed in the same year, with the formation of three divisions and one brigade each. The Indian Army Corps of Signals was also organized at this time and became operational on 1 December 1948. This corps consisted of a Headquarters Signal Regiment, three brigades: an Armoured (Arm) Brigade, Mechanized Infantry (Mai) Brigade and Infantry (Inf) Brigade; four independent regiments: Signals Regiment (Sig), Mechanical Transport Regiment(Trak), Engineers Stores Depot(Esd), Ordnance Sub Depot(Odd).

The present-day Army has three components – Armoured Corps, Field Artillery Corps (FAC) and Infantry Corps

The Armoured Corps is responsible for armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, armoured personnel carriers and other land-based combat vehicles. It is further subdivided into two wings – the Eastern Regional Command which includes Assam and Nagaland states; while the Western Regional Command comprises Jammu & Kashmir state as well as Himachal Pradesh & Uttaranchal regions.

The Field Artillery Corps (FAC) provides artillery support to the Indian Army during operations or defence preparations against external threats such as insurgency or terrorism. It also undertakes tasks related to field maintenance such as ammunition supply etc., but does not conduct offensive operations like direct fire support provided by BMRCs/FRUs/SFs etc., unless specifically tasked so by higher command authority after careful consideration of available resources available within their respective areas of operation.

The Corps Headquarters i.e. the Armoured Corps Centre and Field Artillery Centre are based at Delhi in National Capital Region (NCR)

The Army Day is a national holiday in India and other countries. It commemorates the formation of the Indian Army by combining and uniting various British Indian forces on 15th August 1947, as part of the Partition process.

The celebrations associated with this day include parades and ceremonies at various locations across India. In some places, there are also cultural programs such as plays or concerts which celebrate army history as well as showcase recent achievements made by soldiers in their fields of expertise.

There are three Military Districts namely Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab – which have the responsibility to provide logistic support to the three functional commands of Army

The Rajputana Rifles (RR), headquartered at Jaipur was raised as a battalion on 10 December 1857. It was renamed as 8th Regiment in 1942 and became a brigade-level formation in 1954 when it was transferred from Rawalpindi under Pakistan Army command. The regiment currently consists of two commando battalions – 1st Commando Battalion (1 Cdo Bn) & 2nd Commando Battalion (2 Cdo Bn). Both these battalions are part of Special Operations Group (SOG) that has been awarded with prestigious awards like Ashoka Chakra & Kirti Chakra etc., during Operation Zarb-e-Azab.
