Yes, you heard it right! The newest model of Apple, iPhone 13 will be made in India at Sriperumbudur. Sriperumbudur is a Foxconn plant that is a manufacturing partner of Cupertino. Sriperumbudur is situated in the southern Tamil Nadu state of India. And you will be shocked to know that Foxconn also makes iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 in India. But making the newest model in India does not mean that there will be a drop in the prices. Apple has not made any statement regarding this. But Apple is clear about producing its iPhone 13 in India with the help of the Foxconn plant there in Chennai. It has given the contract to Foxconn and they have got it too. This move of tech giant Apple company will help the government of India to fulfil its Make in India initiative.
There are 11 manufacturing partners for Apple in India, and two of them are Foxconn and Wistron. Both are producing the older iPhone models, but according to the reports, the former is the only one that has got the contract to manufacture the iPhone 13 model in India yet. Even though the first original equipment manufacturer was Wistron in India, the contract was given to Foxconn. It is noted that no Pro model is being manufactured in India yet only vanilla models are on the list. The other partner of Apple, Pegatron will start producing iPhone 12 this month but not the iPhone 13. The India-produced units will only be saleable to local customers rather than to outsiders such as by exporting.
Apple said that they are excited to start producing iPhone 13, with all its incredible features such as beautiful design, advanced camera, and A15 Bionic chip, just right here in India for their local customers. They believe they can provide more to their customers and will exceed their existing record of sales in India. Last year the sale of iPhones in India was a boom for Apple as their shipment grew by 108 per cent.
This time Apple has reduced the timeframe of its product manufacturing in India. iPhone 13 was launched last September and it’s just April 2022 when Apple has made a contract to produce it in India. Apple is thinking to rely less on imported parts which attracts huge taxes. Instead, it thinks that with time the availability has been improved so why import.
Apple also stated that their partners or suppliers in India sites use solar and wind energy for their operations. This is their step to stay eco-friendly and they do not generate any waste sent to landfills.
Apple also gets the idea when their product is being sold in India, at times of festivals when various shopping websites provide them offers and deals. So doing business in India is a kind of plan for them where they know when they can have the maximum profits.
